Terms of Service

What we provide

Occam's Pen provides editorial manuscript review for biomedical and clinical research. Our review includes language editing, structural feedback, consistency checks, compliance notes, literature context, and anticipated reviewer questions.

Our service is editorial in nature. It is not a substitute for peer review, scientific validation, statistical verification, or regulatory advice. All scientific claims, data accuracy, and ethical compliance remain the sole responsibility of the authors.

How it works

You upload your manuscript and we deliver a review within two business days. The review includes tracked-changes Word documents, margin comments, a review summary, and a research report. You receive the full review before any payment is due.

Payment

The fee for a single manuscript review is €750, plus applicable VAT for customers in the EU. Payment is due after you receive the review, and only if you choose to use it.

If you incorporate Occam's Pen edits, comments, or findings into a manuscript that you submit to a journal or share with co-authors, the review is considered used and payment is due. This applies whether you use the deliverables in whole or in part.

Use of AI

Our review process uses AI language models (currently from Anthropic and OpenAI) to generate initial review comments, tracked changes, and research notes. A PhD scientist reviews and refines all AI-generated output before delivery. The final deliverable reflects both AI analysis and human judgment.

Your manuscript

You retain all rights to your manuscript. We do not claim any ownership of or rights to the work you submit. We will never publish, share, or redistribute your manuscript.

Your files are handled as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not use your manuscripts to train AI models.

What you confirm by uploading

• You have the right to submit this manuscript for review (you are an author or have authorization from the authors).
• The manuscript does not contain information that would violate patient privacy or data protection regulations when processed by our review system.

Limitation of liability

Our review is provided as-is. While we take care to deliver accurate and useful feedback, we cannot guarantee that our review will be error-free or that it will identify every issue in your manuscript.

Occam's Pen is not liable for any consequences arising from the use of our review, including journal rejections, retractions, or any claims related to the scientific content of your manuscript. The authors bear full responsibility for the final submitted version of their work.

Our total liability for any claim related to our service is limited to the fee you paid for that review.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in effect at the time you submit a manuscript applies to that review.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Germany. The place of jurisdiction is Dresden, Germany.
